Credentials

You've probably played something I helped build.

I have worked on eleven shipped games, AAA and indie. In the newsletter I share the same techniques, adapted to what one person can build.

What you get

Every issue has something you can use the same day.

The Gameplay Ability System

GAS has almost no official documentation, so I write it myself: ability tasks, attribute sets, effect components, gameplay tags, always with working examples.

AAA techniques for one person

Techniques from shipping Lords of the Fallen, reduced to what one person can build. Save systems in 10 minutes, combat using only Blueprint, plugins that save you time.

Performance

Learn where your frames are going: profiling, hard and soft references, and crash fixes for the hardware your players actually have.

About me

Who is writing this?

I'm the Lead Gameplay Programmer for Lords of the Fallen at Hexworks. I love action games and combat design, and I specialize in Unreal's Gameplay Abilities System ( GAS ).

In the past I have given lectures at Ramon Llull and Pompeu Fabra universities, and I have spent a decade shipping games with teams from two people to two hundred. In this newsletter I share what I learn in AAA production, for the developers building games alone.
